Kelly Baader – Brokenness Is The Shortcut To Success!
Kelly Baader was recently featured in a prominent Television Show in Thailand to speak on Youth Leadership. We spoke with Kelly to chat about her recent success!
Who would think that with all the craziness of relocation from USA to Thailand would open the door to a national TV program to impact countless lives in the new land, because I am a Certified John C Maxwell Team member?!
What made you join the John Maxwell Team?
I have been a follower of John since I was 20, when it was a time marked as “darkness” in my life. I had gone through family violence, divorce, and had been battling with female discrimination at work. I found the “servant hood” leadership concept was very different than what I observed and experienced at that time. It was simple, rich, and had practical application. More importantly, I felt it stemmed from a love for people.
How did it affect your recent Television Appearance in Thailand?
As John often says, “Preparation + Opportunity + Discipline = Success; my most recent national TV appearance in Bangkok, Thailand was one of the examples of it. I cannot imagine where I would be if I hadn’t joined the team, intentionally set out my personal growth plan and allow myself to be sharpened by the mentors and fellow members of the John Maxwell Team. I was prepared when I was offered this opportunity to impact countless lives in a new land to which I had only just relocated a few months ago.
Our family had just moved from USA to Thailand in April this year. There was a day in June; I could probably mark it as one of the worst days in my life: the Thai landlord had just asked us to move out within 2 weeks. On the same day, our kids and I were in a taxi, on our way to dental appointment, we got stuck in a heavy traffic jam on the highway and had to walk to the dentist’s clinic!
So you can imagine that the last thing on my mind was to put on a smile to attend a dinner party that evening.
When the party host asked me about what I do and my book, I used the shortest sentences I could find as I just wanted to go home. However, when she started to ask questions about empowering youth leadership, I was suddenly fueled up with a tank of passion, and we talked about how crucial it is to sow the seeds of hope to the youth here in Southeast Asia, etc.
Before I knew it, I was invited to do this 20 min TV interview as the featured guest! Then all of sudden I realized WHY God guided me to write a book, WHY HE guided me to join the team, WHY HE allowed thing to happen for my brokenness, etc. All of it was preparation to impart to the next generation! On the day of filming, we surprised the TV crew by completing the shoot in one take! And now we are being invited to hand in proposals to the TV host’s connections for seminars and workshops!
How do you think joining the John Maxwell Team might help others?
I’d like to answer with some questions:
1. Are you a leader? If you are a mom, a dad, a decision maker with followers, you are a leader, and you know that you need to be replenished and refilled; this program is an oasis for you.
2. Are you a giver? If you are one of those people who constantly gives of yourself to the people you care for in life, then this program is your fuel station!
