Making a Difference

In 2012, Jan Robberts was invited to participate in a Mastermind Group focused on John Maxwell’s 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth. A perpetual student of growth, Jan was moved by John’s message and when he heard about the John Maxwell Team, he signed up without hesitation.

At his first International Maxwell Certification Event in February of 2013, Jan was immediately impressed with the people around him. “There are many organizations that do coaching and training but when I first walked into the JMT, I realized I was home. It’s the people, the family, that keep me here.”

During the event, many people were speaking about the Mentorship program. “I didn’t think I could give more of myself since I worked 84 hours a week.” Over the course of the event, he was deeply moved by the impact Mentorship made on his peers and, before he knew it, he’d signed up.

Soon after, John Maxwell set out to make a difference in the world and he asked members of his mentorship team to join him in bringing a message of leadership to Guatemala. Almost immediately, Jan volunteered. “John talked about how once you’ve tasted significance, success will never be enough and I thought, ‘What is that all about?’ When I saw into the eyes of these people and what it meant to them, it changed my life. On the way home I quit my job.”

With an entirely new focus, Jan was determined to carry the message of leadership forward. He found partners to support his endeavors and soon established a leadership institute in South Africa. “I have a passion and compassion for understanding people,” he says. “Together, we can impact millions of people, globally!”

Today, Jan continues to build his legacy by adding value to those around him. “If you want to change your own life and make an impact on the lives around you, if you want to become intentional by doing something in this world that will make a difference so that when you die people remember the legacy of your life, you need to be a part of the John Maxwell Team.”
