From Success to Significance
William (Bill) Faulkner did all the right things.
Throughout his career he worked his way up, earned the right degrees, and took on greater responsibilities the higher up he climbed. He’d always believed that this was the formula for success. But when he started to reach for the next level, it seemed like something was missing.
“I came to realize that what got me to a certain point in my career in terms of my leadership, attitudes, and behaviors was no longer sufficient to take me to the next level. As John teaches, I had moved from survival to success but had not realized significance.”
Focused on growth, he began looking around for new programs that could help him to stretch his abilities. “I was considering organizations like Franklin Covey, Dale Carnegie, etc. but when I learned that John Maxwell was forming his own certification program, it was a done deal.” Having read many of John’s books, Bill had always connected with his values, teachings, and applicable methods.
In July of 2012, he joined the John Maxwell Team.
He was immediately surprised by the amount and quality of resources and opportunities provided to members. “It took me months to work through the JMT Online University content and I still have not taken full advantage of everything even though I have been a team member for several years. The fact that we have these resources for life is equally impressive.”
With a passion for teaching and training others, Bill has learned how to maximize his gift to connect his curriculum to his students in a way that both challenges and encourages them. Throughout his growth journey, he has learned how to add value to the people he works with by expanding his own abilities. “I always thought I was a good speaker, but I got better. I thought I had a generous mindset, but I expanded my giving. I thought I knew how to supervise and coach others, but my eyes were opened. I learned how to invest in others versus just helping them. It has been life-changing for me.”
Certified for over four years, Bill continues to grow to use his gift for connective teaching to make an impact on the lives of the people around him. “The JMT is an invitation to take an incredible journey of discovery and impact that begins but never ends. Just jump into the deep end of the learning pool and, if you’re like me, you will have some ‘ouch’ moments, but that just means you’re growing and transforming.”
