Finding the Courage to Grow

After 28 years in the field of technology, corporate life was starting to wane on Louise Elliott. With a passion for serving others, she dreamed of a career where she could help others to apply the lessons she’d learned to tap into their potential.

As a single parent, changing careers felt risky. She found that the people around her weren’t always supportive of her dreams. “I had to find the strength to cut the naysayers out.” Instead of allowing others to tell her she couldn’t make a change, Louise set her heart on learning how to be a better leader.

In 2013, she heard about the John Maxwell Team. “I chose to join because of the groundings in faith and the ability to learn how to be a servant leader.” With her mind set, she became certified at the International Maxwell Certification event that February.

Right away, Louise was thrilled to find a community of leaders looking to add value to others. “I was surprised by the commitment to growth and to reaching as many people as possible. At the John Maxwell Team I have learned how to be courageous with clarity and conviction and I know what direction I’m going now.”

Four years on and Louise credits the John Maxwell Team with helping her find the courage to obtain her Master’s in psychology and to begin serving on the board of a non-profit organization. Her son, age 17, has also become a certified member of the team, and Louise is proud to have set an example of growth for him. She says, “If you truly care about being the best you can be and giving your best self to others, keep going!”
