Diary of a Gremlin Slaying Black Woman

Recently, I had a very eye opening experience that highlighted how the limiting beliefs we hold on to can paralyse us if we don’t identify, expose and eliminate them from our thinking. Let me share it with you.

imageSo, I’m on my way back home after a tremendous 13 day trip of making a difference with people who want to make a difference. I’m at the self-service check in, I swipe my passport and up pops the ‘upgrade your seat to business class’ option. Well my initial thought is, of course I don’t want to do that. After all and very justifiably so, that’s not in the budget.

I’m just about to cancel the upgrade feature when in walks into my thinking a positive voice saying, “Press yes”. But almost simultaneously, without a minutes breath in between there’s a sound in another corner of my mind and it’s SUPERSONIC GREMLIN screaming at the top of his voice, “You know you can’t afford that, you’ve got goals and where are you going to make it back from? I want you to note that the Gremlin voice had no respect for the fact that my 13 day trip had just earned me quite a pretty packet. Meanwhile the positive voice got louder and replied, “Yes you can. This is part of your goal, so press upgrade”.

After 5 minutes of the most robust mental battle you can imagine, I decided it was time to intervene but both arguments were sounding equally as righteous. After all Gremmy had a point, there was the balance of my Mentorship payment, February Live Event to pay for, not to mention the fortune I had spent on shipping the SYWSYL books and the ground clearance fees after that they’d arrived. But then I reflected on examples like Paul Martinelli whose got multi-million dollar businesses coming out of his ears and he’s a high school dropout, or what about Melissa West whose busted all of those boxes and is now the master of minds, not to mention our friend Njeru who moved to the US with next to nothing in his pocket but is now blazing it with best-selling books and red carpet appearances. Sure enough I concluded that RESULTS DONT LIE.

At that point the assistant came over to offer her assistance as she assumed by my indecision and length at the kiosk that I must be having a problem with the machine. It was time to make a decision. The mental war was still raging but my fingers took charge and did the walking. Before I knew it, I had pressed the UPGRADE button for both sectors.

Oh My Gosh there was blood all over the kiosk, the battle was sore but the smell of victory was sure. I reconciled that this one could spare no survivors. All gremlins must be slain!

As I sat there an hour before landing enjoying the last few bites of a very satisfying airline meal and my final sips of red wine; I began to reflect on my wins.

Although, I didn’t solidify any new business on the flight, the upgrade ensured my comfort after completing such a long trip. I rejoiced in the fact that my client was so pleased with the outcomes that she bought and paid for the Leadership Assessment Tool from my JMT site as she promised she would, I got 2 confirmed coaching clients out of it and a very probable virtual MMG for her management team.

So what did I learn? Was the result of purchasing an upgrade solely about my comfort and a hot meal? No it wasn’t. I learned that my decision to upgrade slaughtered my limiting belief of lack and scarcity that has plagued my life and held me captive for many years. It’s a belief that says “You must work hard, make the money but you can’t spend it just in case it runs out”. That day my belief met my emotions and I came to the conclusion that it’s NOT going to run out. EVER!!! I wrote this post to encourage any of you who battle this demon of scarcity. ITS NOT GOING TO RUN OUT!

In fact joining the JMT has given us all the tools to make sure it doesn’t run out. God is giving me ideas to create wealth and I’m taking the opportunities. It’s not running out! My thinking is changing so I can identify exactly how I can recover my costs and enjoy and afford the things I love in life.

The battle was bloody that day and there were many casualties in Gremlin Land but of a certainty I was not one of them. I walked away victorious and heralded the victory chant from my favorite movie 300… ALL FOR SPARTA!
