What are you expecting?
Recently I had this HUGE epiphany about my own personal life! You see I have these HUGE dreams, like most people! Dreams of transforming the lives of women leaders and entrepreneurs all over the world…speaking, coaching, and training!
But at the start of this year, I had a moment. I really had an “aha” moment of, “I get what your dreams are Melissa, but are you EXPECTING for it to happen?” Was I conducting my life in such a way that I was in daily anticipation of something great happening to move me closer towards my dreams? Or did I wake up in a routine way, ready to motor through my to-do list, with only occasional bouts of expectation here and there?
I realized in that moment that I need to be INTENTIONAL about my EXPECTATIONS in every area of my life….and so do you!
Are you intentional…
• In how you wake up and start your day? Don’t just wake up like it’s another day, wake up like you are expecting something to happen!
• In how you look? This is applies to how you look in your outward appearance as well as your attitude. Does your facial expression say, “I’m open for business!” “I’m open and looking forward to having an engaging conversation with you?”
• In what your surroundings look like? Do all of your surroundings (your house, your car, your office) look like you are expecting and waiting on someone? Does it look like you are ready to serve and add value at a moment’s notice?
• In how you think? It’s one thing to say what you are expecting to happen in your life and business. It’s a whole other ball game to actually believe it!!! What you think and believe about yourself is EVERYTHING and will truly determine what it is you are really expecting.
Here’s a perfect example, of how quickly great things can happen for you when you expect it!
One of my close friends Anna recently made a Saturday night trip to Barnes & Noble with her niece. The two of them were hanging out in her favorite section of the store…business and leadership. Another customer on the aisle overheard Anna telling her niece, this is what I teach, pointing to the section of John Maxwell books. And what happens next is simply amazing!
The customer confirms what she heard Anna just say and asked her to come and do some training for her company! Yep, right there on the spot! How cool is that? Was it a fluke? NO! Because the woman immediately goes into her boss’ office first thing Monday morning, tells him about her conversation, and by mid-morning sent a note to Anna for a proposal!! But wait it gets better!
By the following Monday, just one week later, Anna had a signed contract, date, and location to do leadership training with 30 of their key leaders in the organization for the following month.
I don’t know what errands you ran today, but I hope that next time you go on a quick trip to Barnes & Noble, Starbucks, or your favorite past-time location that you remember that story. As well as remember the fact that the right connections, the right business transactions, and life changing experiences can happen Anywhere at Anytime! But are you expecting it to happen?
Change your destiny by how you approach each day with your expectations…starting today!
