Gillian Helm – Kansas City, Missouri

Gillian Helm is Executive Director of Literacy KC. She has always sought out opportunities that combine two of the things she cares about most: education and non-profit work. Gillian received a degree in English Literature from Park University. After extensive graduate research in Latin America on non-governmental resources available to women in poverty, she decided that her focus should address the immediate needs around her and completed a Masters in Public Administration in Nonprofit Management from the University of Missouri Kansas City, where nearly a quarter of a million adults deal with low literacy. Gillian joined Literacy KC in Sept 2011 – quickly rising to Executive Director, where she has lit a fire in the community for the organization and for making an investment in the students it serves. Gillian is putting her kindness and skills to work for others and making a real difference in KC.
