2 Aha’s That Moved Me Toward High Performance Achiever
In John Maxwell’s book The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership he teaches us the Law of Magnetism. The law is defined like this: we don’t attract who we want, we attract who we are.
We are taught that as a leader if we want to attract different talent to our team, then we have to become a better leader. Wow, this was pretty life changing for me as leader. Why? I have always seen myself as a leader, yet before I began really studying and learning directly from John and his JMT teaching team I was always trying to get people to do what I wanted them to do, yet unable to get them to perform any differently without frustrations and disappointments.
If I wanted to be a leader and begin to move toward my purpose I had to do a couple of things.
First, I had to admit I had some lids on my leadership. I had to realize that in order to gain influence and gain momentum in my life and my leadership I was going to have to become a different leader, a better leader, a smarter leader. It has been said that in life we do not get what we want, we get what we are. I had to become something different. Now I am not yet there, but I don’t think we ever arrive until we say good bye!!
Second, I had to learn I needed to surround myself with different talent. People who were ahead of me, people who had strengths I didn’t have at the time, or don’t have now. If I was going to attract these people into my life, I was going to have to become a different person myself. Again, we don’t attract who we want, we attract who we are.
Look around you…are the people in your life pulling you higher, challenging you to become more, to do more? I didn’t have to walk away from all my friends, but I have had to limit my exposure, so I could spend more time with my JMT family and coaches who are challenging me to grow every day. It really is all about who we are that determines where we go in life.
In the 2 years since joining the John Maxwell Team I have learned to follow a process of growth and am becoming a stronger manifestation of who God created me to be in this life. But, I had to intentionally put myself in a high-performance growth environment. I could not, and have not done it alone.
The John Maxwell Team is the greatest fertile ground I have been planted in all of my life. There are 100’s of mentors and colleagues I now have to call on for some great advice when I am faced with a challenge with my business or my leadership.
I look forward to attracting more high performers and success into my life because of the John Maxwell Team. This teams full of high-performance achievers who are destined to change the world and I am going to be on the change train with them and be a part of the revolution of leadership change in the world.
