Philip Newbold has 29 years of experience as CEO of Memorial Hospital and now Beacon Health System in South Bend, Indiana. He has skillfully led the area’s only community-owned health care system through a powerfully transformative time in the field of health care. As the leader of a 7,000+ employee organization, Philip provides invaluable insight, perspective and knowledge into the unique needs and concerns of the community.

Other notable accomplishments include the founding of: the Pfeil Innovation Center, assisting local businesses and nonprofit organizations to become more competitive and integrate Innovation into their workplaces; Epworth Hospital, which provides much needed mental health services to our community; and HealthWorks! Kids’ Museum, helping thousands of kids every year make healthy choices; and a planned $30 million expansion and modernization project of Memorial Children’s Hospital.

Phil has also spearheaded the organization’s national reputation for Innovation, improved patient safety, enhanced patient and employee satisfaction, directed our community’s shift toward population health, and implemented one of the first hospital Tithing programs in the nation. This Tithing program has produced dozens of innovative health outreach programs, including a nationally recognized diabetes management program.

Phil has many roles: husband, father of three children, active community leader and a triathlete. Phil is also a frequent author and speaker on many emerging health care trends and is a nationally recognized speaker on Innovation and Health Care Reform.
